ARTIST BIO

The intimacy of personal adornment has continuously inspired Kim Crocker in her individual interpretation of the art of jewelry since 1984.  Kim found her beginnings in the trade by creating beaded work while touring the United States.  Her collection has progressed to geometric, whimisical, wearable sculpture implementing many intricate mechanical processes, metals, gems and semi-precious stones.  The current collection shows her desire to update through contemporary and historical artistic techniques and influences.

Kim has been a participatory member of the American Crafts Council and the Minnesota Crafts Council, including serving a term as a Minnesota board member, retailing her work through art fairs and galleries.  Organizations and peers have acknowledged her efforts with awards during her career; in fact, two pieces were chosen to be part of the permanent collection of the Minnesota Historical Society.

ARTIST STATEMENT

Sometimes, jewelry is not merely embellishment of your image or ornament of self but a finish or completion of a total idea.

My idea of jewelry often involves a simplicity of form.  In fact, our human form is sculptural in itself.  This is why I feel simple, strong jewelry is such a spiritual complement to the human form.

Many times, the intense beauty of the materials, the color and image of the stones, the absolute clean and clarity of the metals on a human being becomes strong elegant sculpture.  I have a deep desire to create these ideas, these objects, these images of pure strong design.
